Education

Programs for Schools

Orienteering gives children physical exercise, often in the forest, while teaching them about maps, navigation, problem solving and teamwork.

Orienteering skills can be taught to children as young as 5 years old. MerGeo has conducted physical education programs for many Seattle area schools, including Seattle Girls School, Shoreline Home Education Exchange, Seattle Waldorf School, Highland Terrace Elementary, and Cherry Crest Elementary.

Our programs incorporate classroom work, activities on the school grounds, and field trips to nearby parks. Typically, we meet with each class of up to 25 students for one to three sessions per week, each session lasting 45 to 90 minutes, over the course of a term.

Fees:

  • $200 per half day (up to 3-1/2 hours of teaching in the morning or afternoon)
  • $350 per full day (up to 6 hours of teaching)

Fees higher for one-time events and events that require us to make a map.
